Draft posted July 24, 2026 · updated October 1, 2026 (software licensing; holding period not enforced yet)

Draft, pending legal review.

This is a plain-language draft written ahead of launch so the page isn't blank. It has not been reviewed by counsel and does not make binding legal commitments. It will be replaced with a lawyer-reviewed version before real payments open.

What Renest is

Renest is an asset drive for AI image and video creators: it captures the models, custom nodes, dependency locks, and workflow behind a working run, and lets you bring those files and dependencies back on another machine, each file checked against its checksum. Whether the restored environment runs is something the tool tests and reports; it is not a promise.

What we don't do

We don't judge whether a custom node is compatible, we don't curate or recommend models, and we don't help you get a workflow running for the first time. Renest reproduces a run you already got working — it doesn't debug one for you.

Presale (current stage)

The site is currently in presale: joining a waitlist registers your interest in a paid plan and does not charge you anything. Prices shown are indicative and may change before checkout opens. We'll email the address you gave us when a plan is ready to purchase.

Your content

What you save through Renest — models, workflows, dependency locks — stays yours. We don't claim ownership of it, and the underlying format is open (Apache-2.0) with a standalone restore.sh escape hatch, so your data stays usable even without our service.

Software licensing

Renest is not one license — it is three, on purpose:

  • The format specification and the escape script (restore.sh) are Apache-2.0. This is the part that makes sure your data outlives us, so it is genuinely open.
  • The ComfyUI plugin is GPL-3.0-or-later, following the ecosystem it plugs into.
  • The renest command-line tool is source-available, not open-source software. You may read, audit and modify the code, and personal use on your own data is granted permanently. What the license withholds is running a competing hosted service with it. We don't call this "open source", and we don't promise a future relicensing we haven't decided on.

The full explanation is in Licensing.

Free tier holding period

Not enforced yet. The clause below describes a rule we intend to apply to free drives. It is not running today; we will announce it on this page, and email every affected account, before it starts.

Storage on the free tier is held for 90 days between sign-ins. Signing in to the website resets the 90 days — there is no limit on how many times you can renew it, and renewing costs nothing. If an account goes 90 days without a website sign-in, we may delete the stored nests belonging to that account.

Before that happens we email the address on the account, starting 30 days before the deadline, and the remaining days are also shown in the web console and printed by the command-line tool when you restore. We are not relying on email alone.

The account itself is not deleted — you can still sign in afterwards, your login and settings still work, and you can start saving again immediately. Only the stored content goes. Paid plans have no holding period; if you downgrade from a paid plan to free, the 90 days start from the day of the downgrade, not from your last sign-in while paying.

Content you saved locally with the command-line tool is unaffected — it lives on your own disk and in your own bucket, and this clause has nothing to say about it.

Bring your own cloud

Renest orchestrates pods on cloud providers you choose and pay directly (BYOK) — we don't resell or rent GPU capacity ourselves. Any provider referral links on this site may earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

Acceptable use

  • Don't use Renest to store or distribute content you don't have the rights to.
  • Don't attempt to defeat the file checksum checks or otherwise tamper with another user's saved data.
  • Hand-offs are private, code-gated transfers — don't use them to run a public distribution channel.

Changes

We may update these terms as the product moves out of presale. Material changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
